Gold Coast will reportedly choose between former top 10 draft pick Nathan Freeman and Magarey Medallist James Tsitas for the final spot on their list.
The Suns have had four players training with them over summer, but have narrowed their final choice down to the two 26-year-olds, according to AFL Media.
Freeman played two AFL games for St Kilda after initially being drafted by Collingwood, as injuries derailed his career.
Josh Jenkins believes the midfielder has earned his third AFL lifeline, after dominating in the VFL for Frankston last season.
“I’d like to see him get another opportunity. I think if you earn the opportunity, then you earn the opportunity, and he definitely has,” Jenkins told SEN Breakfast.
“He was completely dominant in the VFL games that were played (in 2021). Sure, he’s a little bit older.
“I don’t think Gold Coast need to be looking for guys to move the needle, I think they should be looking for the Charlie Constables and those who can actually just help them play more consistently on a week to week basis.
“He’s a big powerful midfielder if he’s that guy that can come in and be consistent, because their performances dip too often, if he can help them be a little more consistent then he might be the one.
“I don’t actually know much about Tsitas so I can’t really comment about him.”
Freeman was incredibly prolific in the VFL in 2021, averaging 38 disposals per game across nine matches.
Tsitas averaged 29 touches per game for Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL.
The Suns added a range of players over the off-season, including Mabior Chol from Richmond, Constable from Geelong and Levi Casboult from Carlton.
