Darren Berry has labelled Perth Scorcher’s opener Kurtis Patterson as the “most improved” player in the BBL.
Patterson has been a revelation this season having previously played for the Sydney Thunder.
The left-handed batter has played 13 of a possible 15 games, hitting 390 runs at a strike rate of 143.91, including four half-centuries and a best score of 78.
Many, including Berry, had written off the 28-year-old in the short game format, however his BBL|11 season has seen him become one of the best-performed players in the competition.
“He’s been outstanding, he’s the most improved player for me this year in the competition,” Berry said on SEN Mornings.
“Kurtis Patterson has reinvented himself and it’s a great lesson for everybody in this format when he played for the Sydney Thunder he was a bit of a nicker and nudger and I must admit I didn’t think he was suited to this game of cricket.
“Patterson has gone to the top of the order, opening up and clearly coach Adam Voges has said ‘back your skill, take them on, we’ll put up with the odd bad out’.
“He’s been a revelation, one of the best-performed players in the comp, playing aggressively, getting them off to a positive start.”
Prior to BBL|11, Patterson had never made a BBL 50 in his previous 30 appearances at the Thunder and Scorchers.
The Perth Scorchers play the Sydney Sixers in this year’s BBL final at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.
