2022-01-27T17:01+11:00

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis have advanced to the Australian Open men’s doubles final after winning their semi-final at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday.

The Aussie pair defeated third seeds Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers in straight sets 7-6, 6-4, setting up an all-Aussie final against compatriots Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell.

Ebden and Purcell upset second seeds Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram 6-3, 7-6 on Margaret Court Arena prior to Kyrgios and Kokkinakis’ victory.

Saturday’s clash will be the first all-Aussie Australian Open men’s doubles final since 1980.

Mark Woodforde, a 12-time Grand Slam doubles champion, is anticipating a cracking contest when the Aussie quartet meet this weekend.

“It’s taken my breath away,” Woodforde told SEN’s coverage of the Australian Open.

“I’m so chuffed for both teams. It’s going to be an amazing match.”

It’s the Aussie pair’s first Grand Slam final appearance. Ebden and Purcell reached the quarter-finals at the US Open last year.
