Sam Stosur to join SEN’s coverage of Barty’s Australian Open final

2022-01-28T11:26+11:00

SEN’s Australian Open coverage has been bolstered by the addition of 2011 US Open singles champion Sam Stosur, who will commentate the women’s final on Saturday night.

One of the country’s most revered tennis players, Stosur recently announced she would retire from singles action following the conclusion of this Australian Open.

She will continue to play on the tour in 2022 in doubles, capping off an incredible career which has included one Grand Slam singles title and four Grand Slam doubles titles.

Stosur will join Brett Phillips in commentary for the much-anticipated women’s final as Ash Barty bids to become the first Australian to win a singles title at the Australian Open since Chris O’Neil in 1978.

The Aussie world number one will take on big-hitting American 27th seed Danielle Collins, who has looked in ominous touch in the past fortnight.

The Barty v Collins women’s final will take place prior to the all-Aussie men’s doubles final between Nick Kyrgios/Thanasi Kokkinakis and Matt Ebden/Max Purcell which can also be heard on SEN.

The action doesn’t stop over a mammoth weekend, with Australian tennis great Mark Woodforde to join Brett Phillips in commentary for the men’s final in prime time on Sunday night.

Woodforde has been a leading voice on the station throughout the Australian Open, with listeners enjoying his insight and opinions during the biggest matches of the tournament.

SEN’s Australian Open finals weekend coverage begins at 6pm AEDT on Saturday and continues on Sunday night and can be heard right around the network and on the SEN app.
