North Melbourne president to stand down before the 2022 season

2022-02-01T08:00+11:00

North Melbourne president Ben Buckley will stand down before the start of the 2022 AFL season.

Buckley confirmed to the Herald Sun that he will transition out of the role and pass it to Dr Sonja Hood.

Hood has served on the Roos’ board since 2019 and was a key part of their Huddle community program.

Buckley has operated as club president since taking over from James Brayshaw in 2016.

North Melbourne became debt free for the first time since 1987 at the end of 2021.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Buckley stated that he felt it was the right time to transition to a new board and structure.

“It has been a great honour to have the opportunity to lead this club, but it is the right time to move on,” he said.

“Sonja is an outstanding person. No one is more knowledgeable about North Melbourne’s history, culture and heritage than Sonja.”

North Melbourne won the wooden spoon in 2021, but unveiled a number of promising youngsters and finished the year with momentum.
