Former Crow comments on camp apology

2022-02-07T08:54+11:00

Josh Jenkins says he understands why Adelaide Crows players, present and former, have not spoken out publicly regarding the infamous camp.

The camp reared its head once again last week when the Nine Network and The Age issued apologies to training company Collective Mind while retracting articles from and interviews involving journalists Sam McClure and Caroline Wilson.

Crows supporters have taken somewhat of a victory lap since the apology was issued, but does this situation make the club exempt from any wrongdoing?

It prompted a discussion between Sam Edmund and former Crow Jenkins who was present at the camp on the Gold Coast in early 2018.

Edmund asked on SEN Breakfast: “Why haven’t Crows players spoken about it and laid it out on the record to clear it up once and for all?”

Jenkins replied: “I can only speak for myself, but I’m pretty sure I know why others haven’t spoken out.

“Because they’ve had careers that they’ve been trying to pursue elsewhere at other clubs and in a different life.

“Some are willing and some aren’t. Everyone’s got their right to move on or speak out or just to do what they like with it.

“Some would see speaking out as a bit of a blight on their own reputation, which I don’t think would be the case.”

While there previously has been anger and frustration towards the situation, Jenkins says those feelings have since dissipated.

But he did suggest that there remains plenty of unknown information floating around both the general public and within the media.

“I think being frustrated has probably passed us by,” he added.

“I’ve spoken to a few (players), but not heaps. It’s interesting, funny and strange that a lot of people claim to know a lot about what happened, yet no one really knows what happened.

“Because I know what happened, I was there. A lot of people claim they know what happened, make all these large statements and not many of them are very accurate.”
