Manly playmaker Kieran Foran has his sights set on representing the Kiwis at this year’s Rugby League World Cup in England.
Foran, 31, made his international debut in 2009 for New Zealand and has picked up 22 caps along the way, including captaining the side at the 2013 World Cup.
After a significant break in international play due to COVID and with his career reaching a twilight stage, Foran says he’s desperate to represent his country on the biggest stage once again.
“That (playing in another World Cup) is certainly a goal of mine,” Foran said on SENZ Mornings.
“I’d love to be part of the World Cup side that’s going to head over to England at the end of the season.
“Playing for your country is the pinnacle, it doesn’t get any better than that.
“I’ve absolutely relished every time I’ve gotten to pull on that black and white jumper and it’s certainly a burning desire for me to pull it on a few more times.”
Foran’s halves partner for much of his international career has been Shaun Johnson, and the Sea Eagle can’t wait to see his Kiwi teammate head back home and again represent the Warriors in 2022.
“I could feel inside what it would mean to him to go back to the Warriors and be a part of that side again,” Foran said.
“I think he’ll just be soaking it up and loving it.
“I think it’ll re-energise and refresh him both mentally and physically.
“I think you’ll see one of Shaun’s great seasons this year, he’ll have a great impact on that side.”
The 2021 Rugby League World Cup will begin in England on October 15 after the tournament was pushed back a year due to COVID.
