“It’s just phenomenal”: Oklahoma is falling ”head over heels” after latest Giddey performance

2022-02-16T10:44+11:00

Josh Giddey had a career night on Tuesday, leading Oklahoma City to a win over New York in Madison Square Garden.

The teenage Australian point guard picked up a 28-point triple-double in the absence of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

He now holds the three youngest triple-doubles in NBA history and continues to take Oklahoma by storm.

Thunder beat writer Brandon Rahbar spoke glowingly about Giddey’s early impact on the league.

“It’s incredible. The last two triple-doubles coming in back to back games. What he’s doing is unreal,” Rahbar told SEN Breakfast.

“When you open up the pages of NBA history and you see the three youngest players to record a triple-double and all three of them are Josh Giddey now. It’s just ridiculous.

“He’s doing things the likes of LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Ben Simmons, all these players have done, and he’s doing it at a younger age, it’s just phenomenal.

“He went into Madison Square Garden last night and just dominated the game and won the game for the Thunder almost singlehandedly.

“He was the best player on the court, the Knicks have Julius Randle who was an All-Star not that long ago and Giddey was clearly the best player last night.”

Rahbar added that the Aussie has been fully embraced by the locals.

“The city here is in love with Josh Giddey. I’ve seen plenty of posts with kids and teenagers taking photos with him at the mall,” he said.

“He’s always good to talk to fans and things like that and the fans kind of fell head over heels for him.

“In Oklahoma, if you say nice things about Oklahoma and the fans here they’re going to like you, and Giddey has said great things and he’s out and about, but he’s also so good on the court.

“So his combination of talent and his off-court persona, the fans are just eating Josh Giddey up.”

Giddey will feature in the rookie showcase during NBA All-Star weekend.
