Dockers to “monitor” Demons young gun

2022-03-04T11:54+11:00

Fremantle GM of Football Peter Bell says the club will monitor Luke Jackson’s contract situation at Melbourne.

Jackson, an East Fremantle product, won the Rising Star award and a premiership in a breakout 2021 campaign and comes out of contract at the end of this season.

The 20-year-old finished with 16 disposals at 92 per cent efficiency, six tackles, 16 hit-outs and a goal in Melbourne’s Grand Final win over the Western Bulldogs.

However, Bell did concede that Jackson looks “very, very happy” at the Demons.

“David Walls (Dockers list boss) handles all that sort of stuff,” Bell told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“I’m sure that he’s talking to the managers of most of the West Australian players around the AFL. Sometimes they’re longer conversations, sometimes you don’t even get to have a conversation just depending on individual circumstances.

“It’s not really my remit but Luke’s obviously a really talented player, he’s a premiership player, he looks very, very happy at Melbourne.

“We’ll monitor that situation, and we’ll see how things progress over the year.”

Jackson has played 30 games since he was selected by the Demons with pick No.3 in the 2019 National Draft.
