The livewire Docker who's caught Bob Murphy's eye at Fremantle

2022-03-12T14:24+11:00

Fremantle Head of Football Operations Bob Murphy has liked what he’s seen from one young player in his first pre-season at the club.

Speaking on SEN’s The Run Home, Murphy was glowing in his assessment of Liam Henry and admits he has caught him by surprise in the lead up to this season.

“I didn’t know a lot about Liam, but he’s an exciting talent,” Murphy said.

“He’s got skills to burn and he’s athletic.”

Henry, who played 17 matches last season, will be hoping to have a breakout year under the tutelage of head coach Justin Longmuir, as well as new forward-line coach Jaymie Graham, who replaced David Hale this off-season.

After spending time forward last year, a move to the wing has been flagged for the 20-year-old over the pre-season, who has impressed in the new role.

Referring to his character, Murphy praised the young Docker's connection to his teammates and those around him.

“There’s just something incredibly warm and charismatic about him,” he said.

“He’s one that’s won me over pretty quick.”

However, it’s not just off the field where Murphy has been impressed with the budding forward, tipping his work-ethic and diligence will pay off on-field.

“He trains hard, and he loves his club,” Murphy added.

“I have high hopes for him.”

Murphy and Fremantle will be hoping season 2022 will hold more success than 2021, where they finished one win out of the eight in 11th position.

The Dockers have failed to reach the finals since 2015, when they finished atop the AFL ladder. They kick off their campaign against the Adelaide Crows at Adelaide Oval next week.
