Logan McDonald Swans contract negotiations the subject of widespread league scuttlebutt

2022-03-22T08:20+11:00

Logan McDonald’s contract negotiations at Sydney have become the subject of widespread scuttlebutt across the competition.

Talk of the Swans’ out-of-contract key forward and a monster 10-year contract from a rival club has been doing the rounds for weeks.

But the wild speculation has taken on an added layer of legitimacy given Sydney officials are telling people McDonald’s manager Ben Williams had informed the Swans that another club is willing to present that deal.

Williams on Monday denied another club was willing to offer a 10-year contract. Williams also denied telling Sydney that there was.

Several recruiters and list managers this week said otherwise in what is the latest he-said, she-said chapter in the player movement space.

It all comes with the backdrop of McDonald being the sole top-seven pick from the 2020 AFL draft yet to re-sign beyond his automatic two-year rookie contract.

McDonald has kicked nine goals from eight career games, but as a No.4 draft pick and emerging key forward his management are looking for him to be remunerated adequately in the future as well as the present.

Recent Stan Sport documentary Show Me The Money revealed the Swans had tabled a four-year extension to McDonald, with Williams appearing underwhelmed by the money on offer.

West Australian McDonald was drafted amid the feeling he could go home sooner rather than later, but he loves life in Sydney and the side is emerging as a legitimate premiership threat.

Williams, of Players Ink, recently signed another Swan Isaac Heeney to a bumper six-year contract to keep him at the SCG.

Williams also manages some of the brightest young talents in the game, including Jason Horne-Francis, Tarryn Thomas, Jack Lukosius, Connor Rozee and Errol Gulden.
