“This isn’t for me an overreaction to Round 1”: Cornes worried Tigers era is over

Port Adelaide games record holder Kane Cornes believes that Richmond’s golden era is over.

Richmond experience their first Round 1 loss to Carlton since 2012 after their team's 25-point loss last Thursday. SEN SA Breakfast hosts Cornes and Andrew Hayes have stated that they feel this is an indication of what’s to come for the yellow and black.

“This isn’t for me an overreaction to Round 1,” Cornes said.

“This has been building, they’ve won three out of the last 10 (premierships), their best players always get injured, and their best players are old, now that’s the price you pay for success.

“If someone said to me your team is going to win three flags in the next 20 years I would take it, let alone three flags in the last six years and with that you pay a bit of a price … so I think the era is over,” he finished.

Four-time SANFL premiership player Hayes agreed with his co-host.

“Richmond’s era and their dynasty that has been around for four or five years, I think it’s done.”

“There’s a lot of Richmond fans out there who are still bullish that the Tigers can give it one more crack because right now the players that were the absolute catalyst for those premierships, it’s going to sound harsh, but they are probably past their prime.”

Richmond will hope to bounce back in Round 2 when they face GWS on Sunday.
