The Swans have got “big plans” for young forward

Young Sydney key forward Logan McDonald recommitted to the club for a further two years on Tuesday.

Swans CEO Tom Harley told SEN Breakfast on Wednesday that the 19-year-old and the club agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension a couple of weeks ago.

Originally from Western Australia, McDonald was selected by Sydney with pick No.4 in the 2020 National Draft, kicking three goals on debut against Brisbane in Round 1 last year.

Harley says the Swans have got “big plans” for the newly re-signed youngster.

“Logan’s a top end draft pick for us and developing nicely as a key forward,” the Swans chief said.

“We agreed to terms a couple of weeks ago and Logan’s really excited about developing with the group that we’ve got coming through.

“We’ve got good and big plans for Logan. It’s really exciting that he’s committed for another couple of years.”

McDonald, who has kicked nine goals in eight AFL games, has “loved every minute” of his time at the Swans.

“The Sydney Swans is the only place I ever wanted to be. This is a great club, and I am grateful to be able to commit for another couple of years,” he told the club’s website.

“Ever since I walked through the doors, I’ve loved every minute of it.

“The team is such a close-knit group here. I’ve come from Perth not really knowing anyone in Sydney, but I’ve built a close bond with a lot of the younger boys, and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“It’s great to come into this club every day, in this beautiful city, with my best mates and get to work.

“I think we’re building something really special here. This young group is really driven and motivated and I’m really excited to see where we can take it.”

The Swans host Geelong at the SCG on Friday night.
