Ponting identified as Langer's replacement by “international head-hunting firm”

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has been identified as the leading canditate to take over as head coach of the Australian Men’s Cricket Team.

Ponting was identified by an international head hunting firm which Cricket Australia hired in search of a long-term replacement for Justin Langer.

SEN Cricket commentator Peter Lalor believes that Ponting has little to no interest in accepting the role and has criticised CA’s appointment of the firm.

“I can confirm one name that has been approached by the head-hunting firm,” Lalor said on SEN's coverage of the Pakistan v Australia series.

“It’s Ricky Ponting.

“This is the behaviour of business graduates.

“Head-hunting firms, people who interview well, ticking boxes and presentations.

“Couldn’t you just call them (potential candidates)?

“Rather than hiring some shiny firm to go through some business school process.

“What do you reckon Ricky Ponting would say to an offer like that?

“Do you want to replace your old mate Justin Langer in a job that pays about a quarter what you get in a year?”

SEN’s Michelle Bishop was equally as scathing as Lalor in her assessment of Cricket Australia shifting the responsibility of hiring a new coach.

Bishop added that Cricket Australia will not install separate coaches for red ball and white ball roles and several names have been put forward to the recruiting firm.

“They won’t split the role,” Bishop said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“It will be the head coach across all formats.

“Trevor Bayliss, Michael di Venuto and Mickey Arthur are possible replacements.

“They are also sending emails out to the state associations for nay name that they would put forward.”

Andrew McDonald is currently the interim head coach of the Australian Cricket team.
