“Michael Voss still isn’t happy”: New training standards at Carlton revealed

2022-03-28T19:22+11:00

Matthew Lloyd says he rates Carlton above Brisbane after two rounds of footy, revealing new coach Michael Voss is holding the playing group to a high account internally.

The Blues are two wins from two to start the season for the first time since 2013, while the Lions are also unbeaten but haven’t impressed Lloyd as much.

The former Essendon champion said Brisbane “hasn’t been great” so far despite making a winning start, calling out defender Harris Andrews after his performance on Peter Wright on Saturday.

“I have Carlton ahead of Brisbane at the moment and I wouldn’t have said that two weeks ago," he said on Sportsday.

“They’re two wins and zero (losses) but haven’t been great in their performances at all. If they would have lost, Harris Andrews would’ve been a big talking point.

“Andrews played in a (laconic) way against Peter Wright on the weekend, I would’ve given him a kick up the back side at quarter time if I were the coach."

Lloyd said the Blues were looking in better shape at this eerly stage of the season, but that Voss was not yet totally happy with the way they were playing.

“I have Carlton ahead (of Brisbane) based on the two ways they’ve won – they won with a goal from (Charlie) Curnow and (Harry) McKay kicking one between them in Round 1 and then they kick nine between them (in Round 2)," he said.

“I think this is good, sustainable, hard football.

“Those internally are saying Michael Voss still isn’t happy with a lot of aspects about the game, he isn’t going in there saying ‘well done boys, another win’.

“He’s saying there are a lot of areas we’re not going well enough as a team.”

Carlton will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they take on Hawthorn next Sunday, while Brisbane host winless North Melbourne on Saturday night.
