Healy’s concern with “high-priced” Swans recruit

2022-04-01T07:39+11:00

Sydney recruit Peter Ladhams is yet to make his debut for his new club.

Ladhams joined the Swans from Port Adelaide for a future third-round pick late in last year’s trade period, with the two clubs also exchanging first-round selections.

The 24-year-old ruckman played second fiddle to Scott Lycett at the Power leading to his departure from Alberton with a year to run on his contract.

Former Swan Gerard Healy was intrigued by the selection of young tall Joel Amartey for Thursday night’s match against the Western Bulldogs.

The Brownlow Medallist fears Ladhams has already fallen down the pecking order at Sydney.

“I just want to focus on the inclusion of Joel Amartey … because Joel Amartey is a forward/ruckman,” Healy told Sportsday.

“Right now, they’ve got Sam Reid, Hayden McLean and young Amartey, which means that Peter Ladhams – high-priced recruit – is behind all of those guys.

“Something is going wrong, clearly John Longmire doesn’t like what he’s doing.”

A knee injury to Sydney’s No.1 ruckman Tom Hickey in Thursday night’s loss to the Bulldogs could open the door for Ladhams to make his Swans debut.

Ladhams played a career-high 17 games for the Power last year, including the qualifying and preliminary finals.
