McClure speaks after Melbourne Press Club reinstates Quill award

2022-04-13T19:26+10:00

Sportsday co-host Sam McClure has had his Quill award for a story on Adelaide’s controversial camp reinstated, it was confirmed on Wednesday night.

The award was originally stripped after The Age and camp organisers Collective Mind came to a deal to remove the story from the website, but it has since been ruled that the Melbourne Press Club’s process to remove McClure’s name from the prestigious award was flawed.

Speaking for the first time since the news was confirmed by The Age, McClure said the full truth around his story would eventually come out.

See the full conversation between McClure and co-host Gerard Healy on Sportsday:

Gerard: “Do you feel vindicated (by the award being reinstated)?”

Sam: “Not really.”

Gerard: “Do you feel as if you’ve been thrown under the bus in many ways? There’s been a dozen people who have had a serious and personal crack (at you) and a few of those should have a good look at a retraction and apology.”

Sam: “I’ve always said on air and off, I think in the fullness of time we will know more and the picture will be pretty clear.”

Gerard: “The Melbourne Press Club, they hold everyone to account and their handling of this has been nothing short of poor.”
