Blues looking to “move on” from retired defender, plus the latest on McGovern

2022-04-29T08:13+10:00

Carlton coach Michael Voss isn’t sure when injured tall Mitch McGovern will be available for selection.

McGovern sustained a grade one hamstring strain at training in late March and was expected to miss three to four weeks.

But speaking on Sportsday on Thursday night, Voss revealed there’s no timeline on McGovern’s return.

The ex-Crow was deployed down back in Carlton’s wins over Richmond and the Western Bulldogs to start 2022.

“He still hasn’t got a date of return,” Voss told Sportsday.

“So that’s still a wait and see.”

Voss was asked if retired defender Liam Jones is still on Carlton’s radar.

Jones called time on his AFL career in November last year after choosing not to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

“There’s obviously been some choices that Liam made. We’re happy to facilitate that choice based on the parameters that were there,” Voss replied.

“I think as a footy club, at some stage, you’ve got to move on.

“As unfortunate as it is, we’d like Liam to still be with us, but that’s not going to be possible, and I think as a footy club we move on.”

Jones, 31, signed with QAFL club Palm Beach Currumbin for 2022.
