The key forward draft prospect that is standing out like a “beacon”

2022-04-28T10:20+10:00

AFL draft prospect Tom Scully is a name to keep your eye on as the year unfolds.

The 17-year-old, West Adelaide product has had a terrific start to the year in the Under 18 SANFL competition, kicking 26 goals from the first five matches, including 24 from his last four games.

AFL Media draft expert Cal Twomey says what we’ve seen from Scully is “astonishing”, saying he’s standing out like a “beacon” amongst the potential key forwards in the upcoming draft.

“He’s not the hard running number 1 pick of the 2009 draft but he’s another one to put down in your book,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.

“He’s a teenager from West Adelaide, he’s blown apart the start of the SANFL U 18s season, he’s kicked 26 goals from the first five games and 24 from his past four appearances.

“Not a heap of key forwards in the top of the draft but he’s standing out at the moment like a beacon.

“202cm, doesn’t turn 18 until November – the Championships is going to be a big part of his season in the middle of the year for South Australia but what we’ve seen so far has been astonishing really.

“Still a bit of growing to do in him, but certainly all the clubs are looking into Tom Scully – the key forward from West Adelaide and wondering how high he’s going to go.

“At the moment he’s showing great signs.”

Scully’s West Adelaide face North Adelaide on Saturday afternoon in their Round 6 clash at Hisense Stadium.
