Blues midfielder quietly signed contract extension, “on the radar” of rival clubs

Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow is yet to break into the senior side this year despite strong VFL form, but an un-reported contract extension ties him to the club for another 12 months.

Dow signed a three-year extension with the Blues in 2018, but added another year to the deal at some point, according to AFL Media’s Callum Twomey.

This would give Carlton leverage in a trade, should the out-of-favour midfielder request out at season’s end.

“He hasn’t broken into the Carlton team so far this year … he’s in his fifth season and happy and settled at the Blues, but certainly one that is on the radar of rivals,” Twomey told SEN Breakfast.

“The interesting thing here is that most people think he is out of contract this year, but he actually added on an extra year at the Blues some time ago.

“So he’s signed to Carlton until the end of next year. That gives the Blues some sort of trade hand if it does come to that at the end of the season.

“He’s not out of contract which is a little bit unknown, the Blues didn’t release that one. Clubs are certainly looking pretty closely at Paddy Dow.”

Dow was selected with pick three in the 2017 National Draft and has played 58 career games.
