Fogarty returns to training as the Raiders chase back-to-back wins

2022-05-12T10:10+10:00

Canberra Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty is recovering quicker than expected and is expected to play his first match for the club soon according to teammate Matt Frawley.

The 28-year-old joined the Raiders after being granted an early release from his Titans' contract, but his time in Canberra got off to a rocky start after sustaining a serious knee injury in the second trial match against the Manly.

Frawley said that Fogarty has returned to training following successful surgery and has impressed in some light drills.

“Fogarty is going really well,” Frawley said on SEN 1170 Afternoons.

“He actually had his first session with the group.

“Just a bit of light skills and back running.

“He’s ticking a lot of boxes.

“It’s still going to be quite slow for him and we’re not going to rush him too soon.

“In terms of exact weeks, we’re not really sure but I don’t think he’s going to be too far off at all.

“It’ll be a huge boost for the team.”

The Raiders rebounded last week against the Canterbury Bulldogs and snapped a five-game losing streak with a massive defensive effort.

The Raiders next take on the in-form Sharks for Magic Round and Frawley is aware of the attacking threat that Cronulla possesses in several key positions.

“We did a little bit of work (on the Sharks),” Frawley added.

“They’re going really well and they had a massive win from the weekend.

“They have got quality across the park…and a lot of depth.

“We have to be at our best and obviously we beat them in round one but we’re going to expect a much-improved performance from them.

“We’ll take some confidence from that win (against the Bulldogs) and hopefully string some back-to-back wins together.”

The Raiders will take on the Sharks at Suncorp Stadium on May 15.
