Why Western Bulldogs star Treloar still barracks for former club

2022-05-18T19:19+10:00

Gun Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar says he still hopes his former side Collingwood does well, revealing the levels of anxiety he faced before playing against the Pies for the first time in 2021.

Treloar will play his 200th AFL game this week when Western Bulldogs take on Gold Coast in a crucial clash at Mars Stadium on Saturday.

The 29-year-old is coming off arguably his best game for his new team, collecting 35 touches as well as kicking three goals against Collingwood.

Treloar said while taking on the Pies felt normal last Friday night, he said his inaugural meeting against his former side last year was a “very tense time”.

“It just felt like another opposition and game,” he said on Sportsday.

“Last year was well and truly different, it was a build up over summer and there was a lot of anxiety going into that game and I played like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders.

“It was a very tense time and once that week was done, individually I moved on and built in the season. 12 months later, it was totally different for me and I kind of enjoyed it more.

“I still watch the boys from afar and when I’m not playing, I’m barracking for them and wanting them to do well.

“It’s nice to see them having some good wins this year.”

Treloar is averaging an impressive 26 disposals and four marks this season, having played all nine games so far.
