New Zealand’s Matt Henry knows what Brendon McCullum will bring to the England national team.

The paceman played under McCullum’s captaincy so is well versed to pass judgment on the new English Test coach.

He says that the man affectionately nows as ‘Baz’ is the perfect person to bring the English squad together and reignite the long form of the game in the proud Test cricket country.

“I absolutely loved playing under Brendon,” he said on SENZ Mornings.

“He was a fantastic captain and leader of a group. I think one of his real strengths is rallying the guys together.

“I think he’ll do a fantastic job for England. I think that piece of bringing everyone together and driving towards that common goal was something that he really did well with our team. He created a great environment and laid a really strong foundation of where we are today.

“There’s no question that he will do a great job with England.

“He’ll be looking forward to coming to England and getting to know his squad and the people.

“I’m sure everyone will be looking forward to seeing him.”

McCullum named his first England squad this week and despite some new faces, Henry is expecting them to be strong for the upcoming three-Test series.

“There’s no doubt this is going to be a strong team,” he added.

“We know that when you come to play England in English conditions, it’s a challenge.

“It looks like a strong squad and we’re just looking forward that first Test match at Lord’s.”

The first Test between England and the Blackcaps takes place at Lord’s in London on June 2.
