Carlton coach hoping to reunite with star Power mid: Cornes

2022-05-25T08:14+10:00

Kane Cornes believes Carlton coach Michael Voss wishes to reunite with Port Adelaide wingman Karl Amon.

The unrestricted free agent has a decision to make at the end of the season, whether he sticks around at Alberton or tests the open waters, with teams like the Blues, St Kilda and Hawthorn interested.

Cornes reports that Voss is keen to lure Amon to Carlton and believes the fit will be perfect.

“He has a connection to one current AFL coach who is very keen to reunite,” the former Port Adelaide midfielder told SEN SA Breakfast.

“Obviously Michael Voss is coaching Carlton and I think you’ll find he’s very keen to get Karl Amon to the Carlton Football Club.

“It sort of makes a bit of sense to me. He’s an unrestricted free agent. So Carlton don’t have to give up anything to get him.

“He would fit in nicely to the list demographic of what Carlton are doing and considering their performances this year, you’d think they are going to have a period where they’re in the premiership window.

“I look at the wing role at Carlton and there isn’t an obvious wingman. Lochie O’Brien’s been really good and has almost been revitalised playing under Michael Voss, but Karl Amon is ideal.

“So you look at the midfield they would have: Cerra, Cripps, Hewett and Kennedy inside, Sam Walsh plays wherever they need him, and then you put Karl Amon and Lochie O’Brien, two left footed wingmen into that midfield and it’s pretty enticing, and they get him for nothing.

“So provided they can satisfy Karl with a wage, he’s going to a club where he is very familiar with the coach and those two had a great relationship.

“Just watch this space in terms of Karl Amon.

“How does Port Adelaide feel about it? They actually feel okay about it. They’re almost resigned to the fact and can see that it’s Round 10, he’s an unrestricted free agent, he’s been dropped once this year, the writing is on the wall.

“They would be hoping the deal is on the high end so the compensation pick for him is satisfactory. That’s the state of play with Karl Amon.”

O’Brien, Jack Newnes, Matt Cottrell and Will Setterfield have filled the wing roles this year for Carlton, with the club seemingly not yet set on who their best options are this year.
