Two of the AFL’s leading football administrators will be offering a rare opportunity to demonstrate what it takes to run a football department and build an AFL list.

In conjunction with the Global Institute of Sport (GIS), Former North Melbourne CEO and General Manager of Football at Collingwood, Geoff Walsh, will join current Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd to provide a behind the scenes look on what it takes to make it as an AFL administrator.

The Certificate in the Business of Australian Football, run over a two day course from July 6th and July 7th, offers a rare educational opportunity for aspiring administrators to enhance their understanding of the multidisciplinary business of the AFL & AFLW and learn about recruiting, list management and football operations.

GIS, the leading destination for educational Master’s degrees covering the world of soccer and the sports industry, will also now offer degrees tailored to Australians from 2023 onwards. GIS is powered by a global network of industry leaders and offers in venue education from some of the world’s most prestigious stadium venues.

In the case of Australia, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is one of GIS’s premier global hubs. This gives participants the opportunity to study online or within a blended model, utilising the MCG during periods of the degree for onsite learning.

With a strong link to football in the UK where GIS has the largest cohort of sports students in the UK, the Australian tailored Master’s degrees include MSc Football Coaching & Analysis, MSc International Sport Management and MSc Football Business.

Many of the UK’s leading administrators will be teaching the degrees including Christopher Winn (co-author of the Deloitte Football Money League), Mike Walsh (coached at Manchester United, Manchester City, Preston North End, Blackpool and Wrexham) and Danielle Prescott (professional scout at Manchester United).

GIS Chairman Brendan Flood, the former Director of Premier League club Burnley FC, said he is excited to offer Master’s degrees in formats suitable for Australians.

“Our aim is to offer a unique educational opportunity for those who are motivated and want to enhance their journey within the sports industry. We know Australia is one of the world’s greatest sporting nations. With the MCG at the heart of that, we believe these Master’s degrees will provide the tools to help students secure their desired career path whether that be in administration or coaching.”
