Magpies coach McRae wins “little side bet” over Blues counterpart Voss

2022-05-30T07:07+10:00

Michael Voss will be paying for Craig McRae’s dinner the next time the two AFL coaches dine out together.

McRae and Voss, former teammates during Brisbane’s 2001-03 premiership three-peat, teed up a “little side bet” prior to Sunday’s blockbuster between Collingwood and Carlton.

McRae’s Magpies got the better of Voss’ Blues by four points in a thrilling encounter at the MCG that went down to the wire.

“‘Vossy’ owes me dinner,” McRae told reporters after the game.

“We had a little side bet; loser pays for dinner. I might go out for a nice meal.

“Maybe a nice steak somewhere and a glass of red would be nice.

“He definitely owes me one. He actually owes me two now to be honest.”

McRae couldn’t be happier for Voss, who has the Blues just outside the top four on percentage in his second senior coaching role.

“I’m really happy for him to get another chance,” the Magpies mentor said.

“This industry doesn’t allow too many second chances in this role. He’s got a lot to offer and clearly they’re having a great year.

“Unashamedly a mate of mine. I love him to death and want the best for him.”

Collingwood moved to 6-5 thank to their win over the old enemy in front of a bumper crowd of 80,627.

McRae’s side next play Hawthorn (4-7) at the MCG on Sunday.
