Raiders set to make play at Bulldog after losing forward to Knights

2022-05-31T10:14+10:00

Canberra forward Adam Elliott has reportedly told club teammates that he’s headed to the Newcastle Knights for the 2023 season.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Elliott has signed for the Knights alongside his partner Millie Boyle, with the NRLW Dally M winner also joining the club.

With Elliott reportedly leaving the nation’s capital, The Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis expects the Raiders to turn their sights on a potential replacement in Jack Hetherington.

While the Knights are also keen on acquiring Hetherington, Carayannis expects their Elliott acquisition to make it difficult in their attempt to land both forwards.

“Newcastle have signed Adam Elliott, and they met with Jack Hetherington, the Canterbury forward a couple of weeks ago who’s off-contract,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“I think you’ll find the Raiders now may dip their toes into the Jack Hetherington discussion to bulk up their forward pack.

“That could be the consequence of signing Adam Elliott Newcastle, they might miss out on Jack Hetherington.

“They want to get both, they’ve got one and they’re still looking at the other one.”

With Hetherington linked to the Raiders, Carayannis noted a family connection that could lure the prop to Canberra.

“I think the Raiders are going to come in (for Hetherington) now,” Carayannis said.

“Jack is the son of former Raider Brett. so there’s that connection there as well.”

The Knights are yet to confirm any news of Elliott’s signing despite reports indicating that the deal is done.
