Collingwood CEO says De Goey contract talks “tracking well”

2022-06-05T14:50+10:00

Collingwood CEO Mark Anderson has shed new light on the ongoing contract talks between Jordan De Goey and the club.

Anderson told AFL Nation that General Manager of Football Graham Wright has been in discussions with De Goey’s manager Ryan Vague about a new deal and that those talks are progressing positively.

“Wrighty has been picking up a lot of the conversations with Jordan's agent, that's normal and that's continuing, really good communication and dialogue across both of those for a long period of time,” he said.

“He’s had a great year on-field and he’s tracking really well off it as well.”

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a strong 2022 campaign, averaging 21.5 disposals (the highest of his career) and 1.1 goals a game en route to 31 AFLCA Coaches Association votes.

While he endured a tough off-season after being embroiled in an off-field incident in New York, Anderson says De Goey is enjoying the tutelage of new coach Craig McRae and is satisfied at the club, with the finer details the only hold up for a new contract.

“He's enjoying his footy, he's enjoying our environment and he's enjoying what Craig's brought. He's in a really good space, the contract discussions occur as normal, and we'd be hopeful there's a good outcome there,” he explained.

“It’s going to take a little bit of time, but it's tracking well.”

If the star decides he wants to explore his options as a restricted free agent, he can field offers from rival clubs but Collingwood will have the ability to match any contract tabled.

Essendon and St Kilda are reportedly considering deals around $1 million, but those rumours would be quashed if De Goey sticks with his word and re-signs at the famous club.
