Brisbane CEO comments on future of in-demand free agent

2022-06-22T19:21+10:00

Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann has confirmed discussions remain ongoing between the club and Dan McStay’s management as rivals circle the unrestricted free agent.

The Age reported on Wednesday that Collingwood remains the front-runner to secure the talented forward’s services beyond 2022, after he was offered a five-year deal to make a move south.

While McStay has yet to make a decision on his future, Swann was hopeful the 26-year-old would opt to stay at the Lions after sticking with them during the club’s recent period at the foot of the ladder.

“The discussions (with Dan McStay) are still happening,” he said on Sportsday.

“We understand why (there’s interest from rivals), he’s been a good servant for us. He has a couple of properties up here and he’s been here through the bad times so we’d like to think he’ll stay.

“It won’t get resolved until he comes in and says something one way or the other that he’s staying or going, but certainly the talks are still happening.

“Fingers crossed that he stays.”

McStay has played 11 games for Brisbane this year, kicking 14 goals and averaging 11 disposals and five marks.
