AFL great to address Collingwood playing group ahead of crucial GWS clash

Collingwood coach Craig McRae has revealed AFL great Leigh Matthews will address the playing group ahead of the club’s clash with GWS on Sunday.

Matthews, who usually resides in Brisbane, is in Melbourne over the coming days fulfilling media commitment and has accepted McRae’s invitation to speak.

McRae played under Matthews during Brisbane’s triple premiership run between 2001 and 2003 and couldn’t hide his excitement that the Australian Football Hall of Fame legend would be present at Collingwood on Friday.

“We have Leigh Matthews coming in tomorrow and I’m so excited,” he said on SEN’s The Run Home.

“He’s coming in at nine o’clock, we’ve been trying to honour our jumper all year and I just asked him to come in. We’re excited by that.

“We have Leigh’s honour role and I’ve deliberately left everything in it and it’s ridiculous what he’s been able to achieve.

“To kick 915 goals as an inside mid/forward, it’s incredible.”
