Jackson urged to re-sign with Melbourne

2022-06-24T07:32+10:00

SEN host Gerard Whateley has urged Luke Jackson to re-sign with Melbourne.

The 20-year-old remains unsigned beyond 2022 and has been linked with a move home to his native state of Western Australia.

Fremantle and West Coast are reportedly interested in luring the premiership ruckman back to WA.

Whateley feels Jackson should remain with the Demons and aim to achieve more team success.

“Just take your two years at $700,000. Grow into your career through year four and five,” Whateley told AFL Nation.

“Amass your premierships. There will be all sorts of offers in your future if you’re that player.”

Former Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins added: “There will. Not many managers speak like, Gerard.”

Whateley replied: “They should because I can show you the careers that have been ruined by taking too much, too soon.

“Why you would walk out on this Melbourne side now would be beyond me.”

Jackson stepped up in Max Gawn’s absence in Melbourne’s statement win over Brisbane on Thursday night.

The Demons young gun collected 21 disposals, won 18 hit-outs, had 10 score involvements, laid nine tackles and kicked a goal in the 64-point thrashing.
