“Genuinely speculation”: Tigers not too worried about Baker, Martin links

Neil Balme says he is not too bothered by speculation regarding Richmond pair Liam Baker and Dustin Martin.

Recent reports in Western Australia have indicated that West Coast is showing “significant interest” in the 24-year-old whose Tigers contract expires this year.

Along with Baker, there is constant chatter about superstar Dustin Martin perhaps packing up and leaving for Sydney.

However, senior club advisor Balme is not thinking about either player departing Punt Road even if he acknowledges that both the Eagles and Fremantle could attempt to lure Baker home to WA.

“It is genuinely speculation,” Balme said on SEN WA’s The Run Home.

“We don’t expect either of those things to happen when we try to provide an environment for both the boys to be there for as much of their career as they can.

“I’m pretty confident that’s what will happen.

“Having said that, if I were one of the West Australian clubs, I’d be working my butt off to get Liam Baker because he’s a damn good player.

“Dustin is obviously a star one way or the other, but we’re pretty confident they’ll both stay with us.”

Baker, who finished equal second in last year’s Jack Dyer Medal, is enjoying a superb season playing a variety of roles.

Martin, 31, is contracted with Richmond until 2024.

The Tigers, who currently sit eighth, are in action against the Eagles at the MCG this Sunday.
