Blues great looks back at amazing debut season

2022-07-03T11:39+10:00

Carlton great Ken Hunter had a memorable first season in the VFL.

Hunter, who joined the Blues from WAFL side Claremont for the 1981 season, won a premiership and a best and fairest in his first year in Victoria.

“It’s every kid’s dream I think,” Hunter told SEN’s This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.

“To be able to go over there and have a good year as a team, we only lost a few games and beat the favourites (Collingwood) to win the Grand Final, but to actually experience that … when it comes time to run up the race and you hear the crowd roar.

“You get out on the ground, and you think to yourself, ‘This is what it’s all about’.

“It was just an incredible thing for me to be able to experience that in my first year in Victoria.”

Hunter won three premierships with the Blues across his 147-game career.

He was named in Carlton’s Team of the Century and inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
