Volkanovski silences doubters with dominant trilogy win over Holloway

2022-07-03T14:31+10:00

There’s no doubting Alexander Volkanovski after the Australian put in a classic performance to defeat Max Holloway by unanimous decision at UFC 276 in Las Vegas.

Having beaten the Hawaiian on two occasions already, Volkanovski put the rivalry to bed by winning the trilogy fight in stunning fashion, claiming every round all on all three scorecards to remain the champ.

The Windang native proved too fast for his opponent across 25 minutes, using his jab to perfection as Holloway was badly beat up across each round.

With Volkanovski looking a class above his rival, UFC commentators Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier were in awe of the Australian’s performance.

Cormier felt it was the best Volkanovski had ever looked at UFC level, a ringing endorsement considering he’s never lost in the promotion and is currently 12-0 since making his UFC debut in 2016.

While controversy surrounded the result in the pair’s second fight, Rogan was impressed with how clearly Volkanovski distanced himself from his opponent.

“That’s probably the most important thing, this was not a close fight,” Rogan said.

“We’ve never seen Holloway this busted up before.”

Having cleaned out the featherweight division, Volkanovski said post-bout that he next plans to fight at lightweight where he’ll look to hold two championship belts at once.
