Ratten receives backing after re-signing with Saints

2022-07-08T09:44+10:00

St Kilda coach Brett Ratten has signed a contract extension.

The Saints announced on Friday morning that Ratten has re-signed for a further two years.

St Kilda president Andrew Bassat is convinced Ratten is the right man to take the club forward.

“As the leader of our men’s program, Brett has secured significant buy-in from his fellow coaches, staff and players alike,” Bassat said in a letter to members.

“In addition to his strong football IQ, our players appreciate his ability to develop strong relationships, which he uses as a foundation to challenge each individual to get better and to deliver their role for the team.

“This balance, and the ability to unite his coaches, players and staff in a relentless quest for excellence makes Brett the best person to lead us towards our much longed-for second premiership.”

Ratten ended St Kilda’s long finals drought in his first full season in charge in 2020.

The 50-year-old was named caretaker coach midway through the 2019 season.

“His genuine belief and deep understanding of where we all want this club to go is clear in each decision he makes, and even more so by the way he brings others along with him,” Bassat said.

“Brett and his family embody the spirit of the Saints, and I am proud to have him leading us forward.”

The Saints are ninth on the ladder with a 9-6 win-loss record ahead of Saturday night’s crucial match against Fremantle at Marvel Stadium.
