Breakout Docker's management shopping around for a better contract

2022-07-15T07:29+10:00

Blake Acres’ management is reportedly shopping the 26-year-old around in pursuit of a better contract offer.

West Australian journalist Kim Hagdorn is reporting that the wingman has only been offered a one-year deal by Fremantle.

Prior to injuring his hamstring in Round 13, Acres was enjoying a breakout season on the wing, averaging 21 disposals, 5.8 marks and 4.2 inside 50s per game.

He has been a key part of the Dockers’ side, emphasised by his immediate recall to the senior side for their clash with Sydney on Saturday.

“I see that as a strong respect for Blake Acres. He hasn’t played since Round 13 (and he’s straight back into the side),” Hagdorn told SEN WA’s Drive.

“I started to wonder, I’ve heard his name mentioned as being on the market.

“His management is touting Blake Acres around and I sort of thought to myself waiting to see the teams today, let’s put his name down as one to watch.

“If Acres doesn’t come in straight away, he’s not automatically regarded as a starting winger and I think the season he was having before his injury, he definitely was.

“He hasn’t gone back through the WAFL. I think it’s an endorsement that he is a bit more highly regarded than perhaps the one-year deal he has been offered and the not-so-good money as he has been on.

“He’s keen for a better deal and that’s why his management is having a look around. This is an endorsement perhaps that he’s more longer term regarded for Fremantle than perhaps they initially thought.”

Acres signed a two-year contract extension with Fremantle upon being traded west by St Kilda, locking him until the end of 2022.

He has played 37 games as a Docker across three seasons and has played 112 career games.
