Roosters playmaker Lam joins father Adrian at Leigh Centurions

2022-07-21T08:04+10:00

Sydney playmaker Lachlan Lam has signed a deal with English club Leigh Centurions according to SEN’s Michelle Bishop.

As Lam’s father Adrian is the coach of the English Championship club, Bishop says it’ll be somewhat of a reunion in the city on the outskirts of Manchester.

“The Lam family will be reuniting,” Bishop said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“Lachlan Lam is set to join his father Adrian overseas, he’ll leave the Roosters as early as this week.

“He’s signed on to play with the Leigh Centurions, so watch this space for more.”

As the Centurions currently sit atop the RFL Championship table, the club will hope Lam can secure them English Super League promotion as he’s also committed for next season.

“I don’t think he’s going to be closing the door on his NRL career,” Bishop said.

“He might look at this as a bit of a Jackson Hastings situation, going for a bit of a refresh.

“I think you’ll find Leigh Centurions are knocking on the door of the Super League so it’s for the rest of this year and next year.”

Having starred for Papua New Guinea in their recent Test against Fiji, SEN’s Andrew Voss was shocked that the 24-year-old couldn’t secure a move to another NRL club.

“Based on his performance from Papua New Guinea against Fiji, I’m shocked Lachlan Lam hasn’t played first-grade this year,” Voss said.

“Or even another club in the NRL has come across to say, ‘There’s a bloke we can have as a playmaker’.

“He hasn’t played NRL this year, he was outstanding in that test.”

Voss’ co-host Greg Alexander expects the playmaker to star in the English Super League should the club secure promotion.

“He’ll go well in the English Super League Lachlan Lam,” Alexander said.
