Western Bulldogs midfielder Josh Dunkley’s future is still unclear.
The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the 2022 season and is yet to recommit to the Bulldogs, despite being offered a long-term deal.
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey is reporting that Port Adelaide is showing interest in Dunkley whose next move remains up in the air.
“There’s still no clarity on it, to be honest,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.
“He has a long-term contract offer in front of him at the Dogs, so there’s obviously interest there to keep him.
“But there’s also interest out there for rivals including Port Adelaide. They are among the clubs pursuing him.
“Of course his partner (Tippah Dwan) does play netball in Adelaide for the Thunderbirds so there is that link there in South Australia.
“Two years after wanting to walk out to Essendon, his value is different now. He’s played every game, averaged 25 disposals, he’s had a pretty strong season.
“We’re at Round 20 and he’s still weighing things up there with the Power well in the mix if he decides to look around.”
Garry Lyon’s mail suggests that the Bombers, who were keen on Dunkley in 2020, are again interested.
“My mail is don’t discount the club that came hard at him last time,” said Lyon.
To which Twomey replied: “They’ve still got interest there I believe.
“The Dogs wanted two first-round picks for him last time. That’s not going to be his value this time given he’s out of contract.
“A year away from free agency so wherever he does sign, I think this is his free agency deal, his big deal.
“If the stays at the Dogs it’s his big deal, if he leaves it’s his big deal. It’s a career-defining point in what he does.”
Dunkley and the Dogs will look to consolidate their position in the eight when they meet ladder leader Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.
