Angus Brayshaw could leave Melbourne this year depending on how the 2022 season pans out for the reigning premiers.
That is the opinion of his younger brother Hamish who can see Angus leaving the Demons if they win a second straight flag.
Brayshaw, 26, is out of contract this year and yet to recommit to the Dees with Fremantle the most heavily linked club.
He said on SEN Breakfast on Tuesday that the next decision is major in his career.
“It doesn’t take a genius to figure out this is the most important decision I’ve got to make (with my career) and it’s not one I’m taking lightly at all,” he said.
“I’ve got a heap of due diligence to do to feel comfortable about the decision I make, obviously I haven’t decided yet. I understand that time is running out on the clock and people speculating, but fortunately I’m not making the decision for any of them, it’s a decision about what’s best for me and I’ll make it when I’m ready.”
The younger Brayshaw assessed those words on SEN WA Breakfast on Wednesday.
“That’s as stock standard an answer as you’ll read out of the AFL players’ handbook,” Hamish said.
“It’s, ‘I don’t want the public to know where I’m thinking about going and so I’m going to leave it until the end of the year’.
“I think he honestly hasn’t made a decision yet. I’ve spoken to him about it, I’ve tried to pick his brain.
“I honestly don’t think he’s made up his mind yet, he’s obviously got a lot to think about.”
The younger sibling further said that his presence at Melbourne in 2023 will be determined by their success or lack thereof this year.
The 134-game Demon has been forced out of his current side’s on-ball brigade due to the presence of Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Jack Viney and could seek midfield minutes at another club.
“I think it will heavily depend on what happens at the end of this year with Melbourne,” he continued.
“If they can go back-to-back, I think he’ll be content with the job that he’s done there and it will be a career move for him.
“I think if they get done this year it might be a chip on the block that he wants to go again.
“If he leaves Melbourne it’ll be for a position in the midfield and on a pretty lofty contract.”
The former West Coast midfielder, who is involved with the Eagles’ AFLW side, has not yet ruled out Western Australia’s other club for Angus.
“I’m not sure that they aren’t, I haven’t ruled it out,” he said further.
“He had a tongue-in-cheek joke about them a couple of months ago and that was a bit of fun.
“They’re certainly not out of the question, but I don’t think he’d leave Melbourne without a midfield opportunity elsewhere.”
Brayshaw has been in great form across half-back and on the wing this season, ranked first at Melbourne for kicks, second for rebound 50s, third for total disposals and fourth for metres gained.
