The “amazing” stat behind star Swan’s scintillating form

2022-07-29T11:34+10:00

Sydney star Tom Papley loves bringing his teammates into the game.

The small forward is averaging 7.92 score involvements per game in 2022 - the fifth most of any player in the competition – and is ranked number one across the league for average goal assists.

Papley was at his scintillating best against Adelaide last week.

The 2021 All-Australian had 12 score involvements, three goal assists and kicked two goals in Sydney’s 33-point win over the Crows, receiving a perfect 10 votes from the coaches.

David King has shared an unbelievable stat that highlights Papley’s threat in the forward half.

“This is an alarming number,” King told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s involved in scoring chains with 55 per cent of his possessions, so every second time he touches it the Swans score.

“That is an amazing number. It’s the highest of anyone in the competition in the last six weeks.

“You can mount a case … he could be right now the number one player in the competition.

“People will laugh at you for that.”

Papley and the Swans take on GWS in the Sydney Derby at the SCG on Saturday.

Sydney, who currently sits sixth on the ladder, have won three games on the bounce heading into the match.
