“He’s the best player in Origin”: Former NRL coach predicts future Immortal

2022-08-02T08:35+10:00

Former Warriors coach Tony Kemp has predicted a future rugby league ‘Immortal’ in Melbourne Storm star Cameron Munster.

The prestigious group is home to only thirteen players, where legends Andrew Johns, Mal Meninga and Wally Lewis are the only surviving members of the all-time greats group.

While players including Jonathan Thurston, Cameron Smith, Darren Lockyer are among the names of those people have speculated to become Immortals in the near future, Kemp believes Munster will join them on the list of future inductees.

“When he first came on the scene, I made a call that first year and said, ‘He’s going to be an immortal,’ Kemp said on SENZ The Run Home.

“Just … you’re watching the way he played (when he started out) and now they reckon he’s the best player in Origin.

“Cameron Munster’s got the world at his feet.”

The Melbourne playmaker is off contract at the end of 2023, and many have speculated his next move in the NRL.

While it is suspected that he will sign on with the Storm, reports suggest the newly formed Redcliffe Dolphins side – headed by Wayne Bennett – will work hard to get Munster on their books.

“They’re apparently offering him $1.3 million a year to go up to the Dolphins (but) I don’t know if Wayne’s that good to get his man,” Kemp added.

“You’re going to go up there, you’re not going to win anything, not in the first couple of years. Whether Cam Munster wants to do that (I’m not sure).”

Bennett has expressed a keen desire to lure the 27-year-old up north, however, Munster seems unlikely to make a move before their inaugural season in the 2023 competition.
