Magpies youngster remains unsigned as talks continue

2022-08-02T11:45+10:00

Collingwood forward Oliver Henry remains unsigned beyond this year.

The 20-year-old has kicked 21 goals in 14 appearances in 2022, including a four-goal outing against Fremantle in Round 10.

Henry last appeared at senior level as an unused sub against Adelaide in Round 18.

SEN’s Sam Edmund gave the latest on where contract negotiations sit with Henry, his management and the Pies.

As contract talks with Henry continue, Collingwood has been heavily linked to Brisbane forward and unrestricted free agent Dan McStay.

“Not overly close at this stage at Collingwood, but I think this one gets worked out. Both parties expecting that to be the case,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“Henry’s management and Collingwood, they met in the last week or two. Talks are ongoing there.

“Now the Pies want him to stay, and Henry wants to stay, but with McStay coming in there’s some things to work out around what his future looks like on game day.”

Edmund continued: “I think they’ll get there, no real reason to think otherwise at this stage.

“It just needs to be worked through with the pieces coming back the other way like Dan McStay and the like.”

Henry has kicked 28 goals in 21 games for Collingwood. He’s also averaging 3.7 marks across his two-year career.

The young Magpie was selected with pick 17 in the 2020 National Draft.
