Franklin set to remain at Sydney following conflicting reports

2022-08-05T18:13+10:00

SEN’s Andy Maher is reporting Lance Franklin will remain with Sydney in 2023.

Wide World of Sports reported on Thursday afternoon Franklin had informed the Swans he would seek a trade at the end of the year, with suggestions they would head north for family reasons.

The report also highlighted Franklin had the desire to win another flag and would be drawn to the Brisbane Lions.

However, Maher has conflicting information, telling SEN’s The Run Home that a new deal for Franklin to remain in the harbour city is in the final stages.

“I can’t say where it came from, but Franklin’s not going to Brisbane,” he said.

“He’s not going, he’s going to stay at Sydney and they’re in the throws of working out the contract, so it does sound like he’s going to play another year at the Swans if this information is true and where it’s coming from is pretty strong.

“They’re arguing whether the last $100,000 is marketing money or how it fits in, how they can use what they have available to them within the rules of the game to satisfy what is right for Franklin to receive.

“They’re right at the very end and the edges of just tidying up the contract for next year.”

Depsite his future being the source of plenty of debate, Franklin remains one of the most potent key forwards in the league in 2022, booting 41 goals from 17 games.

The 35-year-old signed a $10 million, nine-year deal with Sydney back in 2013.
