The low-cost Crow ex-Docker has billed as a potential Lobb replacement

2022-08-05T14:04+10:00

Paul Hasleby believes Fremantle could do with a player like Elliott Himmelberg, provided he doesn’t cost too much.

After SEN SA’s Michelangelo Rucci reported earlier this week that the Dockers are “doing their due diligence” on the Adelaide forward/ruck.

Himmelberg, 24, is out of contract this year and is believed to be a player of interest to Freo.

Their interest comes with continued speculation that Rory Lobb could be on his way out with the Western Bulldogs reportedly seriously keen.

Former Dockers midfielder Hasleby, while acknowledging that Himmelberg hasn’t shot the lights out with the Crows of late, could be an option to turn to if done “cheaply”.

“Elliott Himmelberg hasn’t been playing for the Adelaide Crows,” Hasleby said on SEN WA’s The Run Home.

“He played a game last week but didn’t go very well.

“I was doing some troubleshooting and if the Dockers were to lose Rory Lobb, is there somebody out there in the competition who they could get in cheaply?

“The key word here is cheaply. I’m talking 50-60 plus in terms of the draft. You don’t want to go and trade too much to get him.

“He’s 200cm, he’s kicked more than a goal a game in the time he’s been there. He’s been in the game a while.”

Hasleby cites the uptick in form of tall forwards such as Essendon’s Peter Wright and Gold Coast’s Mabior Chol since they left the Suns and Richmond respectively.

“Recent history tells us that Peter Wright was in a similar boat, you had Mabior Chol who wasn’t getting much opportunity,” he added.

“If a new environment comes along that may be able to get the best out of a player, if done cheaply, I think Elliott Himmelberg could be an opportunity for the Dockers to add to their list with no guarantees of playing every week of course.”

Himmelberg, who was drafted in 2016, has kicked 38 goals in 37 matches for the Crows across five seasons having first played at senior level in 2018.

He has played 10 games this year, returning 12 goals and chipping in as a ruckman.
