Geelong remains “right in the mix” for GWS’ Jacob Hopper.
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey is reporting that the Giants midfielder is a good chance of getting to the Cats this trade period.
Hopper, 25, is out of contract at the end of the 2023 season so the Cats would need to put forward a suitable trade.
“I think Hopper is a good chance to be right in the mix for the Cats,” Twomey said on SEN Breakfast.
“We reported about a month ago their interest in him as a pre agent.
“They’d have to trade for him obviously. He’s still got a year to go on his contract with the Giants.”
SEN’s Sam Edmund also reported on the weekend that the Cats “have expressed a real interest” in Hopper who has emerged as their “number one target”.
Another Giant, youngster Tanner Bruhn, is also being heavily linked with a move back to Victoria.
The Cats are also showing interest in the former Geelong Falcons midfielder and while there is no guarantee he ends up in Geelong, he is expected to move back to his home state ahead of 2023.
“Tanner Bruhn has interest in Melbourne as well, not just at Geelong,” Twomey added.
“That’s one that will drag out a little bit during the trade period, but I think he’ll get somewhere in Victoria.”
Bruhn was selected by the Giants with pick 12 in the 2020 draft and has played 29 career games for the club.

In other Giants news, veteran midfielder Matt de Boer has announced his retirement after 14 years.
The 32-year-old former Fremantle rookie draft selection has called time after 223 games which included 138 for the Dockers and 85 for the Giants.
“The GIANTS organisation and its people are truly a special place and have had a profound impact on not only me but my wife, family and friends,” de Boer said in a statement.
“My heart is unequivocally full of gratitude and love for the friendships, memories and opportunities that playing in the AFL has availed me.
“I’d particularly like to thank Leon Cameron for believing in me and challenging me always to be the best version of myself.
“I’d also like to thank the Fremantle Dockers for first recruiting me and, in particular, Mark Harvey and Ross Lyon for teaching me the abnormal effort and football IQ required to perform at the highest level.”
The Giants meet the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium this Saturday afternoon.
