Hawthorn great urges St Kilda to chase Jordan De Goey

Hawthorn great Luke Hodge has urged St Kilda to continue their pursuit of Collingwood free agent Jordan De Goey.

St Kilda now faces an uphill battle to play finals after going down to Brisbane by 15 points at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

De Goey’s future at Collingwood remains uncertain, having still not re-signed for next season on the back of a controversial year off the field.

Hodge said a player like De Goey would be perfect for the Saints, pointing out that the 26-year-old seems to thrive during big games.

“I’d be going for (Jordan) De Goey if I was St Kilda,” he said on SEN’s Crunch Time.

“He’s a player last night who would’ve loved that opportunity and would have loved having the ball in his hands.

“My issue with St Kilda is the effort. On Friday night, no one can argue the effort wasn’t there but where has that been throughout the season. We’ve seen games (earlier in the season) where they were really good.

“That intensity that they showed (against Brisbane) where they were physical, that’s not consistent enough for this team.

“Before they start bringing in more people, they need to get that right from the people on the list.”

According to The Age, St Kilda has taken a decision on whether to further pursue De Goey to board level, with a decision yet to be reached.

De Goey is coming off arguably his best game for Collingwood this year last week against Melbourne when he had 25 disposals, nine clearances and five inside 50s.
