Cats confirm Cameron’s fitness for first final

2022-08-18T07:16+10:00

Jeremy Cameron will play in Geelong’s first final, coach Chris Scott has confirmed.

The Cats star suffered a hamstring strain in last weekend’s win over the Gold Coast Suns which the club described as “low-grade”.

It was forecast earlier this week that Cameron would be fit to play in Geelong’s Qualifying Final in a fortnight, and now Scott has confirmed that will be the case.

“He’s going to play the first final,” Scott said on Sportsday.

“That confidence is not mine, that’s the confidence that our medical staff are relaying to me and I’m relaying to you.

“To say my heart skipped a beat… It was a bit of a slow burn and if it was deliberate they did it really well.

“Jeremy sort of wandered off, the game at least on the scoreboard was won and they wanted to be really precautionary with what was a tight hamstring. Then gradually over the next 24 hours it was fed back that it might be a bit more than a tight hamstring, but still really minor.

“All the precautionary scans confirmed what the clinical judgment was anyway. The first few days post that injury have been really positive.

“They’ve reaffirmed that he won’t play this week but he’ll be available for that first final.”

Cameron, who has kicked 59 goals this season, will not play against West Coast at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

The Cats wrap up their minor premiership-winning home and away campaign against the Eagles in what is Patrick Dangerfield’s 300th game.
