North Melbourne or Essendon? Clarkson makes coaching decision

2022-08-19T08:55+10:00

Alastair Clarkson will be coaching North Melbourne in 2023 and beyond.

After a 12-month coaching sabbatical, Clarkson has agreed to coach the Kangaroos next year following weeks of speculation.

It has been confirmed by North Melbourne that Clarkson will coach the club until at least 2027.

The four-time Hawthorn premiership coach has been the subject of intense hearsay in recent months and was linked to a number of clubs, including Essendon and GWS.

But he has chosen the Roos and will now return to Arden Street to coach the club where he played 93 games between 1987 and 1995.

SEN’s Sam Edmund says North was always quite confident of landing Clarkson ahead of the Bombers.

“The confirmation before and now widely reported that Alastair Clarkson has told North Melbourne he will coach them next season,” Edmund said on SEN’s The Captain’s Run.

“They were always really confident, North Melbourne.

“They’d been deliberate, they’d been wholeheartedly invested in Alastair Clarkson. There had been many discussions, many meetings and a contract put on the table.

“Surely five years and above is what we’re led to believe.

“Today marks the finish line on what surely has to be the most unique coaching saga of our time.

“A straight shootout between the Bombers and Kangaroos, and it has ended with North Melbourne appointing Alastair Clarkson as their next coach.”
