Outgoing Richmond president lands new sporting role

2022-08-20T09:47+10:00

Outgoing Richmond president Peggy O’Neal has been appointed in a key planning role for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

As first reported by Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary, O’Neal will chair the organising committee for the Games, which will be held across regional Victoria in March 2026.

In a statement released on Friday night, O’Neal said she was thrilled to be part of a diverse organising committee appointed to help ensure the successful delivery of the event.

“I love sport and what it means for communities across Victoria,” she said in the statement.

“I am delighted to be part of the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games and to work with the board, to ensure that the diverse voices in our state are heard as we make decisions throughout the delivery of the Games.”

O’Neal is on the cusp of concluding her successful decade-long stint as Tigers president, having presided over three premierships in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Her final home and away game as president comes on Saturday night when Richmond takes on Essendon at the MCG, with the club locked in to play finals in 2022 after missing out last season.
