Crows set to announce new headquarters at Thebarton

2022-08-24T09:00+10:00

Following years of negotiations, Adelaide will officially relocate its football headquarters and training centre to Thebarton in the city’s inner North-West.

SEN SA’s Kym Dillon joined Kane & Hayesy on SEN SA Breakfast to break the news, putting an end to one of the “three most repetitive stories in South Australian football”.

The Crows will depart their current base at Football Park in West Lakes, where they have trained since they joined the league in 1991, and played at up until 2014 when they moved to Adelaide Oval.

Premier Peter Malinauskas is set to tick off the move in a meeting on Wednesday.

“They’ll restructure the ground; they’ll knock down the community centre and the bowls club will go,” Dillon said.

“There’ll be two ovals there the exact shape of the Adelaide oval and then they’ll construct their office facilities as well.”

The club has been on the hunt for a new facility since before the pandemic, with their sights initially set on the 5.8 hectare old Brompton Gasworks site just a few kilometres up the road from Thebarton.

The then Liberal State government instead awarded the rights to the Melbourne based property company MAB Corporation, a decision Malinauskas promised to review during the state election campaign earlier this year.

“One of (Malinauskas’) election promises was that he’d investigate the Brompton site to see if that deal was all kosher … he’s going to tick that off, say that was a good deal and the Crows are going to announce that they’ll be going to Thebarton.”
